Hello, I'm Emily

I live in Cambridge, MN with my wonderful husband and 2 kids. You can expect to find me with a mug of coffee or tea in hand, exploring the  outdoors with my toddlers, playing competitive board games with my husband, cooking good food for our family, or reading new books.

My Doula Journey

I have always been a caretaker. Starting with my dolls as a young girl, then the babies in church nursery the minute I was old enough to be allowed to help, to babysitting jobs and working at summer camp, and finally as I became a mom myself, I have always been one to hold others. â€‹

I love motherhood. As much as I complain about the discomforts of pregnancy when I am in the midst of it, or don't enjoy cleaning up the food thrown on the floor (yet again), or despite needing to take several deep breathes myself when dealing with a toddler tantrum, being a mom brings me so much joy in life.

And I have learned that I cannot do motherhood alone. Mothers need community. Mothers need support. Mothers need someone to hear them when they are struggling with a tough day. And when mothers are cared for, the family flourishes. The impact mothers have on their children can last generations.

I want to be a part of that impact on families. With an educational background in Maternal and Child Public Health, I have been working with moms and babies/young kids since graduation. Moving to Doula work has been a natural shift that allows me to care for families on a more individual and personal level while maintaining the ability to care well for my own family as well.

Approach to Care

By asking me to join you in this very special journey of adding a new child to your family, you are inviting me into a transformative experience for each one of you. When I walk into your home, I want you to know what values I bring with me:

Whole Family: While I focus especial care to mom and newborn following delivery, I fully recognize that adding a new baby to the family impacts everyone involved. I strive to make sure that each member of the family can become comfortable in their new role, whether that be father, big sibling(s), or grandparents. I strongly value family and confidently know that the health of an individual is impacted by the health of the family.

Faith: I am a Christian, and I choose to serve the Lord with all that I am. With my words, my work, and my family, I strive to love others in reflection of the love that Christ has shown me. I firmly believe that every family deserves doula support and will serve any faith background. However, if you are specifically looking for a Christian doula, I would love to incorporate aspects of faith into your care with prayer, scripture, worship, and conversation.

Empowerment: Ultimately this is your family, your health, and your story. My purpose in joining your family is not in any way to impose any specific ideals, but to encourage and empower YOU to make the decisions that are best for YOUR family.  Each family is unique. I am here to listen to you, and support you in creating the best, healthiest environment for your family.

Confidence: During the time I spend in your home, I hope to see you grow in your confidence as a parent. For first time parents or for those adding one more to the mix, I aim to help ease the transition while helping  you to build skills and gain more tools to continue the parenting journey on your own.

Generational Impact: Throughout my studies in Maternal and Child Public Health, the one thing that stood out to me the most  (specifically drawing me to doula care) is regarding the generational impact that happens when a mother is given the support she needs. When a mother is cared for during her pregnancy and postpartum with adequate rest, support, and nutrition it changes not only her outcome - lowering the risk of health complications or postpartum mental health issues, it also promotes health for her children and their children. Educating and empowering mothers is proven to improve the health of both the family and the community. How amazing is that?! I want to be a part of that work.

Education: I love to learn, and I love to share what I have learned with others. As a doula, I am committed to continually reading and researching to increase my knowledge base while keeping up-to-date on the latest findings. I promise to share evidence-based education that promotes the health and well-being of the entire family.

Breastfeeding: Given the amazing power of breastfeeding to positively impact the health of both mother and infant, I am passionate about breastfeeding. If it is your goal to breastfeed your new baby, I am fully committed to supporting you along the journey.
